MākuSafe Team Named Finalist for Two Startup Iowa Awards

January 18, 2021

The finalists for the new Startup Iowa Awards were announced last week and we were thrilled to see our company recognized in two categories. The Startup Iowa Awards are organized by Clay & Milk, a media outlet covering Iowa’s startup, tech and entrepreneurial communities. The awards are intended to recognize and celebrate the individuals and organizations making positive contributions to Iowa’s startup ecosystem.

MākuSafe was selected as a finalist for the Startup of the Year. This is a particularly sweet honor as 2020 was a pivotal year for MākuSafe. We brought our industrial wearable safety device and data/analytics platform to market, which meant not only customer installations but team growth to continually drive the software and hardware development, sales and account management. We listened to feedback from customers regarding COVID-19 needs and evolved our product to meet those needs, adding contact tracing and worker density mapping features. The important work of sending more workers home safely continues and we are certainly overjoyed by this recognition and proud to be in a group with other dedicated Iowa startups including, Growers Edge, Rantizo, Roboflow and TapOnIt.

We were also honored to see our Director of Hardware Product Development, Matt McMullen named as a finalist for the Non-Founder Employee of the Year Award. Matt’s tireless work to perfect our base station hardware and wearable device has been truly inspiring for our team to watch. We are not only grateful for the knowledge and dedication he brings to our team, but his positive attitude and willingness to help wherever needed.

While the focus of our work is to send more workers home safely at the end of each day, we certainly appreciate being noticed and honored in the Iowa Startup Community. We are fortunate to be surrounded by such a supportive and talented group of startups and entrepreneur-friendly media in Iowa!
