KEYNOTE SPEAKER ROD COURTNEY, AUTHOR OF “THE 8 HABITS OF A HIGHLY EFFECTIVE SAFETY CULTURE”

Rod Courtney, author of the bestselling book “The 8 Habits of a Highly Effective Safety Culture” will join ENGAGE 2023 as a Keynote Speaker.  Rod began his career in the US military. He served as an Army Combat Medic from 1990-1998. Rod has been a Certified Safety Technician for 25 years and became a Certified Utility Safety Professional (CUSP) in 2019. In 2007 Rod went to work in the renewable energy sector building thousands of megawatts of wind turbines and solar plants across the country.

He is now the HSE Director for Ampirical, one of the fastest growing companies in the US. Ampirical was named one of Americas Safest Companies by EHS Today in 2021. Rod is a USOLN Board Member and was selected as a member of “Who’s Who in America” in 2022.

KEYNOTE SPEAKER CORRIE PITZER, FOUNDER OF SAFEMAP INTERNATIONAL

Corrie Pitzer is a specialist in culture and leadership, focusing on safety…or more specifically on risk. He is a leading consultant in this field globally. He established an approach called ‘risk competency’, that essentially holds that humans are the most capable, most dynamic risk control we have, and as such should be seen as the strongest link in safety, not the weakest. The company that he founded, Safemap International, is today regarded as a leading consultancy in this field, with several international corporations utilizing its expertise.

 

Corrie holds numerous qualifications; BA (Industrial Psychology), B Honours (Industrial Psychology), B Honours (Business Management) Cum Laude, Masters Business Administration, and is Chief Executive Officer of Safemap International Pty Ltd, whose mission is to provide consulting to the resources industry internationally with emphasis on risk-taking behaviour and Competency Based Safety (CBS).

Mr. Pitzer has developed many tools and conducted research focused on areas of special interest, including safety culture, risk taking behavior, and organisational error.

Venue Information
The event venue, The River Center, where the Des Moines River and the Racoon River meet, has important historical origins. Constructed in 1915 it was once home to Des Moines Brewing Co. and later the Green Foundry and Furnace. This location was also where the enlisted mens quarters were for the original Fort Des Moines. It has sweeping views of the Capitol, the Des Moines skyline and Principal Park, home to the Iowa Cubs.

Parking
The River Center offers free parking less than a half block away.
